Lutheran Church in America. Board of World Missions. Secretary for East Asia.
Biographical notes:
The Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church (JELC), organized first as a synod related to the ULCA in 1920, had changed its status to "affiliated church" in 1950. The JELC re-organized in 1963 to reflect new constituencies. The JELC recommended pastors and lay people as scholarship candidates to the LCA for study or travel in the United States. Sometimes such scholarship assistance involved study and travel in Europe as well.
