Biographical notes:
Joseph C. Rychlicki was born in Rypin, Poland in 1908, coming to Detroit at the age of three. He was educated in local parochial and trade schools, and graduated from the University of Detroit. He took post-graduate courses there and at Wayne University. Employed by the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Customs for thirty-three years, Mr. Rychlicki rose to Chief Inspector, Port of Detroit in 1970. He remained at that position until his retirement eight years later. For over fifty years, Joseph Rychlicki was active with the Polish National Alliance; holding may offices, from the local to the national level. He was also a member of many other organizations, such as Polish-American Congress, Central Citizens Committee, American Relief for Poland, etc. Both he and his wife, Anne J. Rychlicki, were also active with Polish youth and Polish Scouts. They supported Alliance College with raising financial assistance and establishing a local scholarship fund. Mr. and Mrs. Rychlicki had two daughters. Joseph C. Rychlicki died on December 19, 1981.
