Biographical notes:

John F. Morrison was a United States (U.S.) Army major and lieutenant colonel, assistant commandant, and senior instructor of military art, Army Service Schools; lieutenant colonel, 21st U.S. Infantry Regiment. During the Spanish-American War, he went to Cuba and took part in the Santiago campaign of 1898. After the war, he was sent to the Philippines Islands and was engaged against the Philippine insurgents at Guadaloupe Ridge and Pasig.
