University of Utah. Publications Council

Biographical notes:

The Publications Council became much more active in the 1960s and 1970s. Two issues which seemed to influence this increase were student activism on campus and the process of selecting editors for the publications. As controversy and debate surfaced, the Publications Council examined the questions of free speech, freedom of the press, legal liability and civil rights. Two results of these on-going discussions were the drafting of Policies and Procedures and an editorial policy during the 1970s. These records reflect the increased activity related to these issues.
