Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, blacksmith and farrier. David Mitchell made and repaired tools, and produced many different types of household hardware, including chains, screws, nails, bolts, and hinges, etc. He also did a steady business making and installing horseshoes. Mitchell's business was closely tied to the whaling trade and his customers included the island's most influential whaling families. He supplied marine hardware to numerous Nantucket whaling vessels, and often undertook repairs of others.
