Biographical notes:

Calais Free Library and Reading Room founded in 1892 by James Shepherd Pike; building opened to the public in 1893; name later changed to Calais Free Library. A large addition was added to the back of the original building in 1985 with a major renovation to the older part of the library taking place in 2002.
