Biographical Note: Klara Hechtenberg Collitz (1863-1944) was a German philologist.

She studied at the University of London (1889-92), Oxford University (1894-95), University of Bonn (1898), and received her Ph. D. from the University of Heidelberg in 1901. She taught at Smith College (1897-99) and Oxford University (1901-4). After her marriage in 1904 to Hermann Collitz, Klara Collitz moved to Baltimore and continued her research and writing. Her most important books were: Das Fremdwort bei Grimmelshausen (1901); Fremdwèorterbuch des 17 Jahrhunderts (1904); and Verbs of Motion in their Semantic Divergence (1931).
