Biographical notes:

The Eighteenth Engineers Regiment was assigned to Alaska and the Yukon Territory during World War II. Their first task was to construct a portion of the Alaska-Canadian Highway through the Yukon Territory. In early 1943, the unit was transferred to Kodiak and then to Shemya, where the regiment worked on various construction projects. In late 1944, the unit was transferred out of Alaska.
