Harrison, John, 1773-1833
Biographical notes:
John Harrison was born to a Philadelphia Quaker family and studied in England for 2 years, including studies in chemistry with Joseph Priestley. He returned to Philadelphia in 1793 and established himself as a druggist and chemist. In 1808 he achieved the first commercially successful manufacture of sulfuric acid and then concentrated on industrial chemistry. Harrison Brothers? the business had been carried on by Harrison's sons and grandsons.
