Biographical notes:

Officer of the 17th Regiment of Foot, dispatched Aug. 26, 1764, from Cedar Point, Ohio, by Col. John Bradstreet to Fort de Chartres in the Illinois country. Morris was to inform the tribes along the way that Bradstreet had made peace with the Shawnees and Delawares, and to warn them not to oppose British troops.

Despite the peace treaty, Pontiac continued to urge the tribes to resist the British, forcing Morris to abandon his mission Sept. 7 at the Miami villages. He returned to Detroit Sept. 17.
