Biographical notes:

Anne Wallace Howland was born in Athens, GA. She was educated in private schools and graduated from Girls High School (Atlanta, GA). She received her library degree from the University of Georgia and was an instrumental figure in the Atlanta Public Library system.

She played a key role in acquiring money from Andrew Carnegie to donate money for the building of the Carnegie Library in Atlanta in 1899.
