Biographical notes:
Represented are George Washington Anderson ([1823-1901], a Baltimore native who moved to Richmond, Va., in the 1840s and became a leading merchant dealing in carpets, rugs, and curtains), his wife, Margaret Lydia (Horn) Anderson ([1818-1899], granddaughter of Pennsylvanian Col. Joseph Jefferies of Revolutionary War fame), and their sons, Charles Jefferies Anderson ([1848-1925], of Richmond, Va., Confederate veteran, member of the V.M.I. Corps of Cadets who participated in the Battle of New Market, businessman, and president of the Board of Governors of the Richmond Male Orphan Asylum), George Jordan Washington ([1851-1916] of St. Paul, Minn., and Hamilton, N.D., banker, married to Rebecca Fleming and father of two), and James Harper Anderson ([1854-1923] of Richmond, banker and businessman, married first to Mary Tomlin Young (d. 1907) and second to Eleanor Bowles Armistead).
