Born in Northampton, Mass., Dec. 7, 1755; grad. from Yale, 1776; aide to General Shepard, with rank of major; served in war of Revolution; member of state H.R. 1787; of state Senate, 1789; of U.S. Congress, 1793-97; Brigadier General of state militia, 1796-1800; U.S. consul in London, England, 1805, to his death in Cheltenham, England, Sept. 2, 1811.
