Biographical notes:

Francis Preston Blair, Jr. (Feb. 19, 1821-July 9, 1875) was the only Free-Soiler from a slave state elected to Congress in 1856. As a Congressman from Missouri Blair denounced the Kansas-Nebraska Act as a violation of the Missouri Compromise. He was defeated for re-election to Congress in 1858.
