Abercrombie, John W. (John William), 1866-1940.
Biographical notes:
John William Abercrombie attended the University of Ala. and graduated in 1888. He became active in the area of education, was principal of numerous secondary schools and was elected as the State Superintendent of Schools (1898-1902).
He also served in the Ala. State legislature (1896-1899), as President of the University of Ala. (1902-1911), and as a Congressional Representative (1914-1917). He authored several books and pamphlets, and was a member of numerous educational committes.
