Lussan, Marguerite de 1682-1758
Variant namesBiographical notes:
Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, marquise de Pompadour, for whom this manuscript was bound, was the official chief mistress of King Louis XV of France from 1745 until her death in 1764. On Dec. 30, 1747, at Versailles, she performed the title role in Louis de Cahusac's one-act comedy Zéneïde (first staged in 1743); cf. Jullien, A. Histoire du théâtre de madame de Pompadour dit Théâtre des petits cabinets (Paris, 1874), p. 18-19. Her acquisition of the manuscript is possibly related to that performance.
