Carter B. Magruder was a United States (U.S.) military general. After graduation from the Military Academy he became a 2nd and 1st lieutenant in the 6th, 8th, and 10th United States Field Artillery Regiments and a captain in the 21st and 9th Field Artillery Regiments. He rose up the ranks during World War II (WWII) to become: colonel, director, Plans Division, Army Service Forces; brigadier-general, G-4 Mediterranean Theater; major-general, chief of staff and commanding general, European Theater Service Forces; G-4 and Chief of Staff, U.S. Army, Europe. After several staff positions, he was appointed commanding general, 24th Infantry Division; lieutenant general, IX Corps; chief of staff, Far East Command and general, Far East Command.
