Biographical notes:
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: This school was built in 1891. Highland was Boulder's fourth permanent school. From 1893-1895 it served as the location of the University's Preparatory Department. Highland School was last used as an elementary school in June 1970. It has since been the home of the Community Free School, Head Start, and Historic Boulder. In 1977, the address was changed from 835 to 885 Arapahoe Avenue.
