The Wekiva River, a major tributary of the St. Johns River, is a designated Wild and Senic River in central Florida. The Wekiva Resources Council is a nonprofit organization at the University of Central Florida that works to balance the different interests of the organizations and individuals involved in the protection and management of the Wekiva River Basin area.
