Biographical notes:

Marie Hough Borden (1866-1962) voluntarily fundraised for leprosy missions. Her husband Abel Pierce Borden, nephew of Jonathan Edwards Pierce and Abel Head "Shanghai" Pierce, co-managed A. H. Pierce’s land and cattle enterprise after his death with Pierce's daughter Mamie Whithers and widow Hattie Jones Pierce. In 1906 Borden made a famed trip to India for Brahman cattle, which were quarantined until President Theodore Roosevelt intervened to have the disease free cattle shipped to Texas.
