Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). Board of Trustees
Biographical notes:
The Miami University Board of Trustees was established by the 1809 Act creating Miami University. It functioned as the sole administrative body of Miami until the University's formal opening in 1824, and again, during the University's temporary closure from 1873 to 1884. At other times, the Board has exercised general oversight under University activities and its approval is required for all University fiscal expenditures and major policy decisions. Much of the Board's work is done in committees with the full Board giving general approval. The Miami Board of Trustees currently consists of 11 members; nine voting members appointed by the governor of Ohio for nine-year terms, and two non-voting student members appointed by the governor for staggered two-year terms.
