Educator, author, and North Carolina historian. Professor of English at North Carolina State University from 1926 to 1974. Roger Marhsall received his B.A. from Wake Forest College in 1920, his M.A. from Columbia University in 1923, and a M.Sc. From North Carolina State College in 1932. He was a member of the English Department at North Carolina State University from 1926 to 1964, eventually rising to the rank of full professor. He was most well known for his work in the freshman English courses. He also served as Acting Department Head from 1942 until 1945.

Roger Powell Marshall was born August 9, 1899, in Gastonia, North Carolina. He received his B.A. from Wake Forest College in 1920, his M.A. from Columbia University in 1923, and a M.Sc. From North Carolina State College in 1932. Marshall was a member of the English Department at North Carolina State University from 1926 to 1964, eventually rising to the rank of full professor. He also served as Acting Department Head from 1942 until 1945. He was most well known for his work in the freshman English courses. In addition, Marshall was regarded as an expert on the state's literature and amassed a highly respected collection of North Carolina literature. He died on August 24, 1987.
