Nine members of the military junta that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1982 were put on trial by the Buenos Aires Federal Court of Criminal Appeals, a civilian court, and were charged with crimes ranging from homicide, torture, illegal detention, robbing, and carrying out illegal searches with false identification. The court acted in compliance with Law 23.049, taking the case over from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, a military court. The federal prosecutor, Julio Strassera, presented over 705 cases and called 828 witnesses to testify, based on research made by CONADE, whose report: "Nunca más," documented the disappearance of over 8,900 people. The accused were: Jorge Rafael Videla, Emilio Massera, Orlando Agosti, Roberto Viola, Armando Lambruschini, Omar Graffigna, Leopoldo Galtieri, Jorge Isaac Anaya and Basilio Lami Dozo. The trial was held from April 22 to Dec. 22, 1985.
