A. W. Wheen, Rhodes Scholar and winner of the Military Medal during World War I, was the translator of E. M. Remarque's novels, in particular All quiet on the Western Front. In later life Wheen worked as Keeper at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. He died in March 1971.
