The illustrator William Ralston was born in 1848. He exhibited in London from 1875 and he contributed to Punch and to The Graphic . One notable cartoon is of The ultimate Cunarder showing a vast exaggeratedly long four-funnelled ocean liner of the period complete with St.Paul's Cathedral and other buildings within its superstructure, sailing at full-steam down St. George's Channel. Ralston had lived in Glasgow. William Ralston died in November 1911.
