Biographical notes:

Blackshear Morrison Bryan (1900-1977) was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. After graduating from West Point in 1922, he commissioned with the field artillery. During World War II, he worked for the General Staff of the War Department and the office of the provost general. He made brigadier general in 1942. During the Korean War, he was commanding general of the XVI Corps from 1952 to 1953. After serving as senior member of the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission in 1953, he was commanding general of I Corps. From 1954 to 1956 he held the position of superintendent at West Point. He was commanding general of the U.S. Army Pacific, from 1956 to 1957, and then of the First Army, from 1957 to 1960. He retired in 1960 as a lieutenant general. His decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal, Air Medal, and Commendation Ribbon.
