Biographical notes:

Christopher Leffingwell: manufacturer in Connecticut; built first paper mill in Connecticut in 1776; colonel in the state militia during the Revolution; member of the Connecticut Committee of Correspondence.

William Leffingwell: shipping merchant and stock and insurance broker in New York City; retired to New Haven in 1809 and became a benefactor of Yale College.
