History notes:

The New York City Taxi Drivers' Union, Local 3036 was formed on July 1, 1966 and elected Harry Van Arsdale, Jr., as their first President. At its peak, Local 3036 had almost 35,000 members. Local 3036 was active until the late 1980s, when it dissolved and merged with SEIU Local 74.

Van Arsdale also directed the establishment of the Union's predecessor, the Taxi Driver's Organizing Committee (TDOC). In the year leading up to the Local 3036's formation, the TDOC won elections conducted by the National Labor Relations in 82 garages throughout the city and came to represent nearly 18,000 taxi drivers and other workers within the fleet garages.
