Major General, U.S. Army. During Indian wars, served at Fort Robinson, Army post at Red Cloud Agency, northwestern Nebraska. Named Camp Robinson Mar. 29, 1874; renamed Fort Robinson Jan. 1878. Active military garrison during Indian wars of the late 19th century. After World War II, facility was declared surplus and turned over to U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
