Dr. Jenko was born October 27, 1921 to Aloysius and Albina Jenko in Krasnja, Slovenia. He attend high school at Ljubljana and registered for medical school at the University of Ljubljana in 1941. During this time he also witnessed the Italian and later German occupations of Slovenia. In 1943 he joined the Home Guards to protect local citizens from communist partisans. As the communists took over Slovenia in 1945, Jenko became a refugee and ended up in a displaced persons' camp in Austria. He graduated from Karl Franzens University medical school in 1949 and emigrated to the United States. He arrived in Great Falls, Montana that same year and began working as a janitor at Columbus Hospital. In 1950 he took a position as an intern at St. Johns Hospital in Butte, Mont. He married Marja Lekan at St. Vitus church, Cleveland, Ohio June 18, 1951. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1952 where Doctor Jenko did his two year surgical residency at St. Marks Hospital. About 1954, he accepted a staff position at the Fort Harrison Veterans' Hospital in Helena, Mont. He retired from there with 32 years of service.
