Founded in 1979, the National Center on Women and Family Law provided case consultation, guidance and technical assistance to lawyers and paralegals working for low-income American women and men on a wide range of family law matters; co-counseling and amicus briefs on "cutting-edge" family law issues; public policy analysis; training for lawyers and paralegals to represent low-income persons; and publications on a range of family law matters, particularly battered women, child support, and child custody. The center provided this under annual contracts with the federally-funded Legal Services Corporation until the end of 1995. The NCWFL was dissolved in 1996.
