Biographical notes:
The Benjamin E. Mays Fundamental Magnet School was opened in the fall of 1977, in a wing of the Jefferson Elementary School. Its program emphasizes basic skills, character development, and cultural heritage. It subsequently moved, first to the former Wilson Junior High School, and later, to the Rondo Education Center.
