Schulman, Elias

Elias (or Eliyahu) Schulman was born on Sept. 15, 1905 in the Russian city of Slutsk. In 1922 at the age of 17 he emigrated to the United States with his family and settled in New York City. He studied at City College in N.Y., "Yivo.
and received a Ph.D. from the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning in Philadelphia.
Schulman was a scholar of Yiddish language and literature, and he published numerous important works on this topic. In 1971 he was appointed Professor of Yiddish Literature at Queens College in N.Y. He died on June 19, 1986 in Israe.
