Biographical notes:

Douwe Yntema was born in 1851 in Drenthe, Michigan. He graduated from Hope College in 1876. Yntema married Mary Loomis in 1888. In 1893, Yntema was appointed chemistry and physics professor at Hope College. Douwe and Mary Yntema had six children, all of whom graduated from Hope College.
