Biographical notes:

Charles W. Schott (b. Sept. 25, 1906, Providence, R.I.-d. Dec. 27, 1993), entered the Air Corps as a flying cadet and graduated from pilot school in 1931. He was on inactive duty with the Air Corps Reserve from 1932 to 1935, until he joined the National Guard, serving in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Missouri, and Michigan. In 1940 he went on active duty, and in 1942 went overseas with the 67th Observation Group. During the Second World War, he served as operations officer with the 67th; assistant chief of staff, HQ VIII Air Support Command; and assistant deputy chief of staff, 9th Air Force HQ. Following the War, he was appointed chief of staff, then deputy commander, 8th Air Force. After serving as commander, 47th Air Division, Strategic Air Command (SAC), General Schott took command of SAC forces in the Far East in 1956. In 1959 he was assigned as deputy inspector general, U.S. Air Force, and retired in 1963.
