Biographical notes:

Author, professor, researcher, scholar, biographer. Wrote Carl Schurz Vroomn: A Self Styled Constructive Conservative (1977), Seed, Soil, and Science: The Story of Eugene D. Funk, Sr. (1959) and Funk of Funk's Grove (1952).

Born in 1904 in Homer, Michigan. Received AB from Randolph-Macon Women's College (1925), AM and PhD from University of Chicago (1931, 1938). Received honorary degrees from Towson State University (1972) and from Illinois State University (1981). Was Michigan high school teacher (1929-1935), Europe Travel School faculty member (1933-1934), social science department head at William Woods College (1938-1940), and research analyst for U.S. Department of War in Washington D.C. (1941-1945). Began professorship as Associate Professor of Social Science at Illinois State University (1946-1953). Then, Professor of History (1953-1972), Distinguished Professor (1972), and Emeritus Professor of History (1972-1980), retiring in 1980.
