Savage, I. Richard
Biographical notes:
I. Richard Savage was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 26, 1925. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1944, a master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1945, and a doctoral degree from Columbia University in 1954. Savage was a statistician at the National Bureau of Standards from 1951-1954, and an acting assistant professor of statistics at Stanford University from 1954-1957. He was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota from 1957-1963, and was a professor at Florida State University from 1963-1974. Savage joined the Yale University faculty in 1974 as a professor of statistics, a position he held until his retirement in 1991. He has been a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, a member of the International Statistical Institute, and editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association and of Annals of Statistics.
