Represented in the collection are Samuel Allen (1814-1871), of Buckingham County, Va., a plantation owner with mercantile interests in Richmond, Va.; his wife, Sarah J. (Harris) Allen (1825-1902); her father, John Harris (1797-1872), a merchant of Richmond, Va.; and William H. Winfrey, of Buckingham County.
