Shrader, Pearl Hutton, 1878-1964
Biographical notes:
Pearl Hutton Shrader came to Spokane from Chicago in 1905. She taught voice in several Spokane colleges and schools for many years. A niece of Levi Hutton, founder of the Hutton Settlement, she was one of the original members of the Hutton Settlement board and served as its president for six years.

Pearl Hutton Shrader was a well-known performer, voice teacher and member of Spokane's musical arts community until her death in 1964. A native of Iowa, she studied music and musical performance at Iowa Wesleyan, Simpson College and the Sherwood School of Music at Chicago. Prior to settling in Spokane, she worked with the New York Metropolitan Opera and was recorded on several early Edison grammaphones. Even after beginning her residence here in 1905, she occasionally engaged in tours as far east as New York City. She was an active member of Central United Methodist and the Hutton Settlement and served on the faculties of Spokane College, Holy Names College (now Holy Names Music Center), Rockwood School for Girls and Cheney Normal School (now Eastern Washington University).
