Biographical notes:

James Lawson Fleming (1867-1909), a native of Pitt County, N. C., was a Greenville, N.C., attorney and member of the North Carolina Senate. In addition to being a partner in the law firm Fleming, Aycock and Moore, Fleming was active in local politics. During his two terms in the N.C. Senate, Fleming was responsible for introducing a bill that led to the establishment in Greenville of East Carolina Teachers' Training School (now East Carolina University).
