Biographical notes:

Frank Minis Johnson, Jr. (1918-1999), federal judge, received a recess appointment from President Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 22, 1955 to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. He was nominated on January 12, 1956; confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1956; and received his commission on February 1, 1956. He served as chief judge, 1966 to 1979. On April 2, 1979, he was nominated by President Jimmy Carter to a new seat in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He was confirmed by the Senate on June 19, 1979, and received his commission on June 21, 1979. On October 1, 1981, he was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and assumed senior status on October 30, 1991. He died in service on July 23, 1999.
