Biographical notes:

The American Baptist Seminary, an institution of higher learning for the training of black ministers and religious workers, was established in Nashville, Tennessee in 1924. The seminary was jointly owned and controlled by the National Baptist Convention, Inc. and the Southern Baptist Convention. The name of the institution was changed to the American Baptist College.

The Southern Baptist Commission on the American Baptist Seminary was dissolved in 1996 and ownership of the College was given soley to the National Baptist Convention, Inc.
