Merchant in Charleston, S.C.; born in St. Phillips Parish (Charleston, S.C.); husband of Rebecca Simons (1750-1842), the daughter of Benjamin Simons (1713-1772), a native of St. Thomas and St. Dennis Parish [Berkeley County, S.C.] and a member of the colonial legislature.
