Halsey, Silas E. (Silas Edwin), 1832-1908.
Biographical notes:
Born in Massachusetts, Halsey was living and farming in Warren, Michigan when he enlisted as a private in Company A, 22nd Michigan Infantry in August 1862. He was promoted to corporal in January 1863. Captured at the Battle of Chickamauga on September 20, 1863, Halsey spent 15 months as a prisoner of war in Richmond and Danville, Virginia, Andersonville, Georgia, and Florence, South Carolina. Paroled in December 1864 and exchanged on March 20, 1865, Halsey was mustered out June 26, 1865, and received an invalid pension beginning in 1866. He worked in various stores after the war.
