Biographical notes:

Pokagon (1830-1899) was a Potawatomi Indian, the son of Chief Leopold Pokagon. Educated at Oberlin College and Twinsburg Institute, he was a gifted orator and writer. He wrote a number of articles and books about Potawatomi legends, language, and culture, some of which were produced on birchbark. A collection of his books is in the Clarke Historical Library.
