Starkweather, John H., 1838?-1912.
Biographical notes:
A Civil War veteran, John H. Starkweather enlisted in Company A of the 1st Michigan Infantry on April 18, 1861, at Detroit, at the age of 23. He was taken prisoner in action at Bull Run (July 21, 1861). He was part of a prisoner exchange, and was mustered out of service on May 20, 1862. He re-entered service in Company B of the 10th Michigan Cavalry as a quartermaster sergeant (August 28, 1863) at Franklin. He eventually achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant. He resigned from the Army on October 6, 1865. He married Mary L. Harris (1849-1890) in 1871. They had 3 children, William, Eva and Nola. Starkweather died in Marion Center, Kansas in 1912.
