Davis, William C. (William Church), 1866-1958.
Biographical notes:
Graduated as 2nd Lieutenant from West Point in 1890 ; stationed at the Presidio in 5th U.S. Artillery. In 1894 graduated U.S. Artillery School, sent to Fort Collins, Colo. (1896). Promoted to 1st Lieutenant and sent to Fort McHenry (1898). Shipped out to the Philippines (1899) in charge of Army Transport Service, Manila. Appointed Captain (1900) and rose to Colonel. Helped in relief efforts after San Francisco earthquake (1906). Appointed Brigadier General (1917); assumed command of 32nd and later the 31st Heavy Artillery Brigades in France (1918). Took part in St.-Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne operations in World War I. After the war he served on the West Coast. Retired from military 1921, died 1958.
