Genealogist, writer, and philosopher, known as "The Grand Old Philosopher of Texas." Born in Goliad, Texas. Son of Charles Arden Russell, who resided in Erie County prior to 1838.

Born in Goliad, Texas, Lyman Brightman Russell (1850-1940) was the son of Emeline Camilla and Charles Arden Russell. In 1872, Russell married Sarah Alice Beem with whom he had seven children. He held a variety of jobs, beginning as postmaster and telegraph operator in Rockport from 1873 to 1876. Moving to Comanche he practiced law, edited the Comanche Chief as well as the Vanguard, and served as mayor in 1904 and 1905. Russell was also a genealogist and wrote the Royal Life of the Beeman-Deming Family from William the Conqueror .
