Biographical notes:

The Associated Students of University of Oregon (ASUO) is a student run, student elected, governing body on the University of Oregon campus. ASUO is comprised of many committees including the Executive, Student Senate (created 1974), and the Programs Finance Committee.

ASUO was created in 1900 to provide a stable financial basis for student activities such as debate, publications, and athletics in. As it grew, it took on many responsibilities such as institution and incidental fee, funding student activities and clubs, and providing student representation in the matters that would otherwise only involve faculty and administrative views and opinions. The university assumed control of athletics in 1947, and ASUO was left to focus on student needs and interests.

The ASUO has held charity drives and has been involved in many construction projects on campus, including the 1925 construction of McArthur Court, where the ASUO offices used to be located until the EMU was built in 1950. ASUO currently runs over around ninety programs created specifically for University of Oregon students.
