Biographical notes:

Originally from the New Haven Colony, Embree family members lived in North Carolina, Penn., Ohio and East Tenn.

Elihu and Elijah Embree, sons of Thomas Embree of Ohio, published the anti-slavery newspaper "Manumission Intelligencer," in Jonesborough, Tenn. This was the first newspaper in the United States devoted entirely to anti-slavery issues.
